About the event
Let’s Play: 24 Hr Interactive Jam is the first all-night evolution of OA’s Let’s Play: Interactive Works-in-Progress showings. Come as an maker or artist to experiment through the night, or roll up as an audience to participate in the wild outcomes. This event is the collaborative brainchild of: Obvious Agency and Futurefull (Dain Saint), Wherehouse (Taj Rauch), IKantKoan Play/s (Jessica Creane), and Yannick Trapman O’Brien (The Telelibrary),
🎲 Players: RSVP or just show up at 3pm 3/29
🛠️ Makers: RSVP then show up at 6pm 3/28
For Audiences:
All you have to do is show up ready to play at 3pm on March 29th! We’ll tell you everything you need to know and make sure you’re having a great time. What should you expect? The unexpected.
For Makers and Artists:
This time is for you. You will have access to dedicated workspace, technical support, and peer expertise. We’ll loosely structure the work period to provide creation time, ad-hoc talks/demos on specific topics, and as-needed technical and creative support. And, of course, the chance to share with an audience at the end!
We’re intentionally throwing our definition of interactive (playable, immersive, whatever) as wide as we can. We don’t know the best words to talk about what we do and what we love - what’s important is that the art lives in the interaction between audience and artist. Come playable theater makers, come LARP creators, come game designers, come experimental dance artists, come musicians, come all!
New to making interactive (playable, immersive, whatever) work? You’re welcome here - whether you’re a veteran or a noob we have the space, time and support to make the time worth your while.
You're welcome to come alone, or with an existing group of collaborators! We welcome people teaming up emergently at the event, working solo, or setting out with an established crew.
Pricing:
Tickets are free! This event is costing Obvious Agency and collaborators about $1,300 plus staff compensation for administrative work. We are offering this as a gift to our community, but welcome donations when you select your ticket or at the event to offset our costs!
For Artists and Makers - loose event agenda
We're structuring our time together as a series of make/break/exchange cycles. What does that mean?
Make = make art! Tear hair out. Try again. Eureka it's alive!
Break = rest, eat, etc.!
Exchange = playtest, share, get feedback, learn something new, teach something!
^ This being said, ultimately the time is yours and outside of orientation, deadlines, and the audience sharing, you're welcome to do what you gotta do.

What’s the parking situation?
Indy Hall has no onsite parking, but there is free street parking available in the neighborhood. It may be difficult to find a spot, plan to leave extra time if parking and be sure to check signs for time limits.
How do I enter the space once I get there?
There is a door on 2nd street - Indy Hall is on the 3rd and 4th floors. Our staff will be there to guide audiences in. Artists be provided a code for building access during the course of the event.
Are the space and bathrooms ADA accessible?
Indy Hall has an elevator and is wheelchair accessible, we're double-checking on full ADA accessibility.
Artist FAQ's:
What kind of artists is this event for?
We welcome artists ages 18+ exploring audience interaction of any experience level! We are intentionally keeping the umbrella really wide here. Our team is made up of people predominantly making interactive/participatory/playable theater, games, and installations, but if you are making (or want to explore making) art that needs the audience to happen, you belong here. You can come with an existing piece to polish/tear apart/re-envision, a new idea, or no idea. Reach out if you're still not sure!
We welcome you to come with an existing collaborator group, solo, or solo looking for a group. We'll make space for any of those desires, though we can't promise you'll find your dream team of collaborators if coming solo. Our team will be here for creative and logistic support no matter how you're making.
We're also open to artists attending who don't make their own self-contained pieces, but support others in doig so.. (Ex. a sound designer who works on interactive pieces). You're welcome to offer your experience and collaboration to makers, but we can't guarantee how much people will take you up on that. Reach out to us if you have questions about this!
What do I share with the audience at the end?
We ask that every artist who attends shares something with the audience (unless there's a really good reason not to). This could be a playtest or performane of something you've been working on, a small test of one element you played with, or even just a conversation about some ideas you're exploring. Sharings will be 12-15 minutes long unless you're making something for a very small audience (think 1-3 people), in which case we can talk about running longer while other pieces happen.
Will there be food?
We'll provide snacks throughout the 24 hour period but not meals. We encourage bringing meals or making a plan for eating out in the area during business hours. There is a kitchen area in Indy Hall including a fridge and a variety of restaurants along 2nd street. Indy hall has a dispenser for hot, cold, and sparkling water.
It's really 24 hours? How should I prepare for that and what should I bring?
It is! All artists are required to be at the space for at least the first couple of hours in which we'll orient the group to the space, process, and each other. After that the you're welcome to leave and come back as you wish but there will be certain deadlines you must meet to be in the sharing.
You're welcome to sleep at Indy Hall - there are some couches and rooms that can be more sectioned off and darkened. We won't have any furniture particularly aimed at sleep, though you're welcome to bring a sleeping bag or other items to make yourself comfortable. We also can't guarantee a quiet space-there will be no amplified sound overnight but likely artists will be actively working through the night. There are no showers at Indy Hall.
We generally encourage bringing whatever materials you need to make yourself feel comfortable and ready for the duration of time you're planning to be here - think about what you need if staying overnight. Change of clothes? Toothbrush?
What materials are available to me in the space?
Indy Hall has a lot but is not primarily a performance space, so there's no lighting grid, etc. Here's a limited list, or take a look at their website for more -Indy Hall
So many tables and chairs, couches, desks
Monitors and TVs with cords to connect
A sound system in the main space.
Multiple rooms and floorspace areas that can be cleared by moving tables.
A giant skeleton (not to be used just admired) (our team has deep disagreement about whether the skeleton is giant or just big, let us know your thoughts)
We'll be in touch with more specific inventory that we're providing leading up to the day. We anticipate this including Bluetooth speakers, projector(s), additional sound equipment, limited lighting options, limited prop and set elements.
Audience FAQ's:
What will the art be like?
Your guess is as good as ours! Participatory and interactive work can range from Dungeons and Dragons to an escape room to a one-on-one conversation to...well, you name it. Come prepared for the unknown! However, we'll make sure that each artist shares enough details about they'll ask you to do to empower your choice of how to participate.
How long is the show?
We've set a run time of 3-6pm, though it's quite likely the actual sharing will be shorter than that, depending on the number of artists sharing. We ask audience members to plan for 3-6pm and be gently suprised if done earlier :)
Do I have to participate in everything?
We don't know! Often interactive creators make work for varied audience sizes. We're asking artists to share 12-15 minutes of content, unless they're making for a very small audience, in which case the pieces will be longer. Expect to see most pieces, but perhaps not everything if you opt into a smaller experience.
You can also always opt out of experiences. We encourage you to say yes to things that might be "not exactly your cup of tea" but still okay to try, and no to things that cross a strong personal boundary (REALLY not your cup of tea/feel emotionally or physically inaccessible or triggering, etc.)
What age do I have to be?
We welcome audience of any age (under 18 with adult supervision). However, we are not gearing the sharings towards minors and it's possible that adult content, themes, and language will be featured in pieces.
What is your COVID policy?
All artists test negative for COVID at the beginning of the creation period, and will only unmask while actively performing. Audience members will not be required to test but will remain masked.
