What We Do​
Obvious Agency is a worker-owned cooperative and performance company dedicated to the creation of an engaging, democratic, and liberatory cultural ecosystem.

Our work has two focus areas: Programming and Wisdom Sharing. Through these two arms we leverage our skillsets as consultants, artists, participatory experience designers, and cooperative administrators to create transformative experiences of agency. Agency for you, for your workplace, for your audiences, and your community.

Programming
Since 2016 we have worked with museums, universities, and other cultural institutions to create participatory and game-like experiences that give audience members an active role to play in the cultural experience.
The programs that we create lead to more meaningful, consistent, and deeper engagement from audiences and attract more diverse audiences across race, age, class, gender, and sexuality. Always serious, always silly, our work primes audience members to be active participants in their lives and communities.Our approach is deeply collaborative, values driven, and prioritizes play.

Wisdom Sharing
We support our clients in creating workplaces where power, information, and money are more equitably shared. We believe that when staff at all levels of an organization feel a sense of ownership over the whole, we create stronger and more resilient cultural institutions that put people over profit, and that make better and more impactful art.
We know this because since 2016 we’ve been doing it ourselves. Our team are experts in democratic management and advocates for the solidarity economy and have worked with a range of organizations including ArtPlace America, Creatives Rebuild New York, Theatre of the Oppressed NYC, and more.
